The New York Knicks just traded Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns, and this broke up the “Villanova Knicks” before they had a chance.
Per a previous report by SNY’s Ian Begley, DiVincenzo was not very keen on playing less minutes for the Knicks this season. But in another report by Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, he says that this is not the case.
According to Bondy, DiVincenzo was “pumped” about playing with Mikal Bridges and the rest of his fellow Villanova Wildcats this season. Instead, the “Nova Knicks” will never get the chance to prove what they could have done if they had gotten the chance to play together.
DiVincenzo played a big role for the Knicks this past season, and was key in the team finishing with the two-seed and making it to the second round of the playoffs. Now, he will be looking to make that same impact with the Timberwolves.
While the Knicks are undoubtedly happy to have Towns, it is hard to not think about what DiVincenzo could have done with the rest of his former Villanova teammates if given the chance.
