Rich Eisen Sends Strong Message to Michigan After No. 5 March Madness Seed Reveal

The Michigan Wolverines are finally going to dance again in March after being left out of the NCAA Tournament in the previous two years.

The Wolverines’ return to the national tournament comes in just Dusty May’s first season with the Big Ten program, which is already quite an accomplishment for the team. However, many are not satisfied by the No. 5 seed assigned to Michigan by the selection committee on Sunday.

In any case, popular sports broadcaster Rich Eisen wants his alma mater to use the perceived disrespect to the program as motivation in the tournament.

“Go Blue @umichbball,” said Eisen in a post on Instagram. “Let’s use the 5-seed as fuel,” he added.

Apart from winning the Big Ten Tournament by defeating the Wisconsin Badgers – a team that got a higher NCAA Tournament seed (No. 3) – in the conference’s title game, the Wolverines also racked up 11 Quadrant 1 victories (11-7 overall).

Their resume got blemished by a couple of Quadrant 2 losses, but Michigan supporters still adamantly believe that the Wolverines should have been seeded higher. For what it’s worth, the Purdue Boilermakers, a team Michigan has beaten twice this season, got a No. 4 seed.

The Wolverines, who are 14th nationally with a KenPom 93.7 adjusted defensive efficiency, will face the No. 12-seed UC San Diego Tritons of the Big West Conference in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
