It’s been an unbelievably bad stretch for Miami Dolphins LB Jaelan Phillips over the last calendar year. Somehow, it just got even worse.
The Dolphins’ 2021 first round pick announced on his Instagram page on Wednesday that he’s out for the season with a knee injury.
Phillips went down during the Dolphins’ 31-12 loss to the Tennessee Titans and eventually was able to get up and limp off the field, throwing his mouthpiece in frustration. However, at least temporarily, things seemed positive for Phillips after returning to the sideline from the medical tent with his helmet on. Ultimately, he went to the locker room and was ruled out.
Know we know it was indeed a very serious injury, one that Phillips says will require reconstructive surgery. If there’s one player who didn’t deserve that, it’s obviously Phillips, who grinded all offseason to make it back to the final 53-man roster 9 months after tearing his Achilles tendon the day after Thanksgiving against the New York Jets.
Now, he’s going to have to start all over again. But as Phillips notes in his message to the fans, he’s resilient. He’s proven he can overcome adversity and work hard.
Without a doubt, Phillips will show everyone on how he’s progressing during his recovery throughout the season and offseason. And, if this year was any indication, you can expect him to do everything to be back as quickly as humanly possible.
