Projected Preseason College Football Rankings Leave Fans in Disbelief
Expectations for Texas quarterback Arch Manning are incredibly high, which is made evident by some projected College Football rankings for 2025. Even though the 2024 season isn’t quite over yet, Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman of On3 put together their “Way, Way, Way Too Early 2025 Top 10 College Football Teams,” and fans have a lot of questions.
Coming in at No. 1 would be Texas followed by Oregon at No. 2 and Ohio State at No. 3. Penn State comes in at No. 4 with Notre Dame at No. 5 and Georgia at No. 6. Rounding out the top 10 are South Carolina at No. 7, Clemson at No. 8, Florida at No. 9 and Auburn at No. 10.
Needless to say, fans are having a field day with these rankings. One thing that has fans shocked is the inclusion of Florida and Auburn in the top 10.
“Adding Florida and Auburn to this makes it lose all credibility,” one commenter wrote.
Fans particularly can’t believe Auburn’s inclusion on the list and believe it’s an example of SEC bias.
“This is why everyone hates the SEC. You couldn’t give 10 reasons as to why Auburn is on this list. The problem is guys like this. These media outlets prop up these teams that have no business being ranked preseason creating false inflated expectations,” another commenter wrote.
Arizona State fans also aren’t happy after their near defeat of Texas in the College Football Playoff.
“ASU not on this list is comical. We are returning nearly every starter but Skattebo. I realize he had a major impact but qb, receivers, 4/5 offensive line, and nearly entire 2 deep defense are returning,” a commenter wrote.
Even fans of South Carolina can’t believe how highly they’re ranked.
“I’m a Gamecock fan but 14 or 15 seems more appropriate for us right now. No clue what Auburn and Florida are doing there, but Florida has a high ceiling, just haven’t proven they’re that good yet,” a fan commented.
It’s also notable that Alabama, LSU and Tennessee are nowhere to be seen on this list.
“Auburn over Alabama, lsu, ole miss, Tennessee is laughable,” another commenter wrote.
Texas being No. 1 likely has a lot to do with the projection that Manning will be a star. Some fans aren’t buying the Longhorns hype anymore.
“Texas is so overrated every year,” a fan commented.
