Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary has shut down rumours of a potential move to the Super League during the competition’s grand final on Sunday morning (AEDT).
The four-time premiership winner was on deck at Old Trafford to watch close friend Tyrone May play for Hull KR, who fell short against Wigan in the decider.
In the wake of Penrith’s grand final win over the Storm, speculation has been mounting that Cleary could leave the NRL in order to be closer to his girlfriend Mary Fowler, who is plying her trade for Manchester City.
When quizzed on the rumours during the Super League broadcast, the 27-year-old laughed it off and confirmed his commitment to the Panthers.
“Not any time soon to be honest,” he said.
“I’ve seen all the rumours, but it is nice to get to come over here and see her play, which is nice to just have a break.
“I won’t be moving over here any time soon.”
Cleary’s comments come just days after Panthers boss Brian Fletcher revealed his plans to lock down the champion halfback, as well as his father and head coach Ivan, to the powerhouse club long-term.
“I hope they’re knocking on my door next week so we can get them out to 2030 at least – or while ever they’re walking we’ll sign them until,” he told 9news Sydney.
At this stage, the pair are signed for another three years at the foot of the Mountains.
