Penn State Football Reacts to NFL’s Saquon Barkley Announcement
Saquon Barkley just put together the best season of his professional career since coming out of Penn State as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
In his first season as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, Barkley rushed for a league-leading 2,005 yards. The former Nittany Lion accomplished this feat in 16 games, sitting out for Sunday’s Week 18 win over the New York Giants.
Barkley came just 100 yards short of Eric Dickerson’s historic NFL rushing record, which has stood since 1984.
The NFL recognized Barkley’s 2024 rushing title with an announcement on Monday.
“Your newest rushing champ: @saquon,” the league wrote on X.
Penn State football reacted to this announcement with a simple post.
“LawnBoyz,” the program replied.
LawnBoyz is the unofficial name of the Penn State running back room, which has boasted some serious talent over the years. The name was originally coined by running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider.
Penn State’s 2024-25 LawnBoyz are a massive reason the Nittany Lions are headed to an Orange Bowl matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Seider’s running back room has two 1,000-yard rushers: Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton.
Penn State will kickoff against Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, looking to punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Barkley and the Eagles will welcome the Green Bay Packers for a wild card matchup at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon.
