The Toronto Blue Jays decided to trade veteran outfielder Kevin Kiermaier at the trade deadline to give him once last chance to win a World Series with the Dodgers.
Kiermaier had a rough season in Toronto this season as he could not seem to figure it out offensively to the point where his batting average was below .200 but they still had him starting regularly.
Once Kiermaier announce that he would be retiring at the end of the season, the Blue Jays put him on conditional waivers and tried to get a trade done but could not seem to make it happen until the trade deadline when Kiermaier was traded for Ryan Yarbrough.
Kevin Kiermaier explains how he found out about the trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers
The former Blue Jays outfielder spoke about how the entire trade went down prior to game 2 of the National League Championship Series. Kiermaier said that he was called into Ross Atkins’ office with Mark Shapiro and he was immediately told that he had been traded to the Dodgers. He added that he was relieved to hear that it was the Dodgers because he felt like they had a real chance at winning and with the current state his body is in, it had to be worth it for him to keep pushing past the pain.
An opportunity to win has kept Kevin Kiermaier going.
Clearly this move has paid off for Kiermaier who has a real shot of heading to the World series as the Dodgers take on the Mets for game 4 tonight with a 2-1 series lead in the ALCS.
Kiermaier has yet to get into the lineup but he is on the roster this series so there is always a chance he might get put in at some point.
