Texas Posts 3-Word Message Before Cotton Bowl vs. Ohio State
In just a few days, Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers will face off against his former team.
The Longhorns star quarterback transferred from Ohio State only to see the Buckeyes make the College Football Playoff semifinal three years later as an opponent.
Head coach Ryan Day raved about Ewers and revealed he offered the quarterback when he was in just eighth grade.
“I saw a young boy at the time who just had a tremendous release,” Day told reporters. “I remember grabbing him and grabbing his dad and said, ‘Man, you’ve got a bright future ahead of you. I don’t know if this is good or bad, but we’re going to offer you a scholarship to Ohio State.‘”
Day knew Ewers could be a special player.
“He always had a great attitude. You could see the talent. Certainly, didn’t want to see him leave, but we knew he was going to be a special player,” Day said of Ewers. “…He’s had a great career at Texas. A lot of people here still have good relationships with him and think the world of him.”
Now, just over 48 hours before the Cotton Bowl between Ohio State and Texas, the latter is sending a clear message.
“Better never rests,” the team said on social media with a Horns Up emoji.
Following a blowout victory over Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Ohio State opened as a slight betting favorite over Texas. However, the line has moved even further in the Buckeyes’ favor as Ohio State sits as a five-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Before the College Football Playoff quarterfinal games, Texas was the betting favorite to win the national title. After Ohio State’s 41-21 win over Oregon and the Longhorns’ close double-overtime win over Arizona State, the two changed places.
Ohio State and Oregon kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
