The Toronto Blue Jays are still looking to improve their offense for the 2025 season and it looks like Los Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward could be of interest.
The Angels just acquired DH Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves for pitcher Griffin Canning, proving that the Angels will be aggressive in making moves this off-season which could be good for the Blue Jays.
Blue Jays could be interested in trading for Taylor Ward
One of the Blue Jays top priorities for the off-season in bringing in a big time hitter to help their offense that struggled immensely during the 2024 season and they might have a trade partner in the Angels.
Angels outfielder Taylor Ward could be a great fit for the Blue Jays who are in need of another outfielder since as it currently stands, they would have Nathan Lukes, Daulton Varsho and George Springer as their outfielders next season.
As of right now, the Blue Jays’ Opening Day outfield will consist of Nathan Lukes, Daulton Varsho and George Springer from left to right (at least, according to FanGraphs’ Roster Resource). -Treuden
Ward has become a solid option over the last few seasons for the Angels and has become a solid power hitter which the Blue Jays are looking for after finishing the 2024 season with 25 homeruns and 75 RBIs.
In 2024, the seven-year vet hit 25 home runs with 75 RBI, a .748 OPS and a 111 OPS+, which puts him 11 percent above league-average offensively. He played all of his defense in left field in 2024, finishing in the 84th percentile in Outs Above Average and 72nd in Arm Strength. Defense has never been his strong suit, but these are respectable numbers. -Treuden
While Ward is not known as a phenomenal outfielder, the most interesting part of his game is his hitting which the Blue Jays could possibly acquire for not too much in exchange.
