BREAKING: Notre Dame Announces Home-and-Home Matchup With Texas

Notre Dame and Texas have agreed to play each other in the 2028 and 2029 seasons

Notre Dame continues to fill up its future schedules and today the Irish announced that another matchup with Texas has been schedule. Notre Dame and Texas have agreed to play each other in a home-and-home during the 2028 and 2029 seasons.

The 2028 game will be played on September 9th inside Notre Dame Stadium. The Irish will return to Texas in 2029 for a September 22nd matchup inside Darrell K Royal Stadium.

Notre Dame and Texas have played 12 teams, with the most recent being a home-and-home in 2015 and 2016. The Irish dominated Texas 38-3 in the 2015 matchup, while the Longhorns won the 2016 matchup in overtime, pulling out a 50-47 victory.

Notre Dame and Texas first met in 1913, a game the Irish won 30-7. Texas earned its first win over Notre Dame in 193, winning 7-6 in South Bend. Notre Dame won the next two matchups (1952, 1954) before the Longhorns beat the Irish in the Cotton Bowl at the end of the 1969 season. The next two matchups were also in the Cotton Bowl, which Notre Dame beating Texas 24-11 at the end of the 1970 season, and the Irish blasting then No. 1 Texas 38-10 to end the 1977 season.

That 1977 victory vaulted Notre Dame into the No. 1 spot and earned the Irish their 10th national championship.

It’s hard to know how the schedule will look by the time we get to 2028 and 2029, but right now on paper both look quite daunting. Notre Dame now plays Texas, Clemson, Miami, Virginia Tech and Arkansas in 2028, while the 2029 slate now includes Texas, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech and NC State.
