On Saturday, the No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies will face off against the unranked Auburn Tigers in the penultimate game of their 2024 college football campaign.
While this is a crucial SEC matchup for the 8-2 Aggies, there’s some concern that the team will get caught looking ahead to their regular-season finale against the No. 3 Texas Longhorns.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko was asked about these concerns.
Elko didn’t exactly inspire confidence with his response.
While attempting to reassure fans about his team’s singular focus on Auburn, Elko accidentally made a crucial mistake.
“Our focus is single-handedly on Texas… I mean on Auburn right now,” Elko said.
Elko and the Aggies started the 2024 season with a Week 1 loss to No. 7 Notre Dame, then reeled off seven consecutive wins. After a blowout loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, Texas A&M bounced back with a 38-3 win over New Mexico State this past weekend.
Elko and Texas A&M enter Saturday’s matchup against Auburn as a 2.5-point favorite over the Tigers at Jordan-Hare Stadium. That matchup will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. EST.
On Monday, Texas A&M’s season-finale matchup against Texas was announced as a primetime night game at Kyle Field. The Aggies will look to finish their season strong under the lights with a 7:30 p.m. EST kickoff time.
