We have some action on the NHL waiver wire for the first time in a while this Saturday.
As reported by the reputable insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Detroit Red Wings have placed forward Tim Gettinger on waivers.
He is available for free.
It’s worth noting that the Montreal Canadiens, due to their position in the overall standings, have a high priority for claiming players on waivers, but it’s unlikely that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will use this priority to grab Gettinger.
After all, they’ve let names like Raphaël Lavoie and Jakob Pelletier pass by.
Still, keep this in mind.
Tim Gettinger placed on NHL waivers
We’ll know tomorrow, around 2 PM, whether the forward gets claimed or not, but his imposing size could potentially interest a team.
Gettinger, 26, is a massive 6 foot 6, 222 pounds forward.
He was a 141st overall pick by the New York Rangers in 2016 (fifth round) and has 16 games of experience in the NHL.
In the AHL, he has tallied 60 points over the last two seasons.
In junior hockey, he notably scored 69 points in 66 games, including 33 goals, during the 2018 season with the Soo Greyhounds.
He is also an excellent leader in the locker room.
Details to follow.
Let’s also remember that the Montreal Canadiens are back in action tonight, live from the Bell Centre, against the Vegas Golden Knights. Samuel Montembeault will be in net for his team.
