The Oklahoma Sooners fired their offensive coordinator, Seth Littrell, earlier this season after the offense started off as one of the worst in the entire country. They were the worst third-down offense, and couldn’t get anything going in the pass game. Honestly, the run game was bad, too.
Now, it’s not fixed, but it is better — there’s no fixing this offense this season. Instead, they have had to just find one thing they can do well, and do that as well as possible. That’s what they did against the Alabama Crimson Tide, where they did almost nothing but run the ball, and they finished with 260 rushing yards, with quarterback Jackson Arnold having 131 himself.
The Oklahoma Sooners are a prestigious football school, with as good of history as anyone. And, people want to play and coach for them. Finding a new offensive coordinator won’t be a challenge at all.
Head coach Brent Venables was asked if this win over Alabama helps make the open offensive coordinator job for next season, a more attractive one. His response was perfect.
“The job isn’t gonna be any more attractive than it has been. We got a line all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico for this job. It’s a very attractive opportunity,” Venables said after the big-time win.
The interesting thing about that is the “Gulf of Mexico” also happens to be a part of where New Orleans, Louisiana is, as they lay on the coast of the gulf. And Tulane, a school in the American conference, is in New Orleans. Do you know who is there? Well, none other than a highly coveted offensive coordinator at Tulane, who is also rumored to be a candidate for the OC job in Oklahoma, Joe Craddock.
Craddock is also a guy who loves to run the ball, as we saw when Tulane was in Oklahoma to play the Sooners this year. He would be the perfect candidate for OU. And, Venables is proving that there are plenty of people who want the job.
