Celtic have reportedly opened talks with Boca Juniors over the permanent transfer of Marcelo Saracchi. The Uruguayan was a successful part of Martin O’Neill’s Double winning team.
Earlier this month, it looked as if no deal would be in the offing but since O’Neill’s return has been confirmed, it finally looks like the transfer business is picking up.
As reported by Record Sport, Celtic are hoping to finalise a deal for Saracchi before pre-season commences and they could sign the 28-year-old for just £2m.
Saracchi started 10 of his 27 appearances for the club, coming up with a key pass to set Callum Osmand up to assist Daizen Maeda against Hearts.
It is expected that Saracchi will want further guarantees regarding his playing time from O’Neill. Along with Kieran Tierney, Celtic have a formidable left side of defence and it makes sense to move for Saracchi if a deal is available.
Celtic need to sign a number of players as MON looks to strength the squad. Celtic have already shifted a number of players on, including departing loan players.
It is a positive that Celtic are starting to get some work done in the transfer window as fans recognise the need to get quality in ahead of the beginning of the season.
