Following the announced trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils, we have some updates.
The now former Canadiens defenseman, Johnathan “JK” Kovacevic, has added more context by making his first statement since the announcement of the transaction.
The 6-foot-5, 223-pound defenseman is determined to establish himself as one of the best defensive defensemen for the Devils.
Johnathan Kovacevic breaks his silence following the announced trade involving the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils
He wants to become a regular there and contribute to their climb towards the Stanley Cup.
“I want to add a more physical dimension to my game.
This is something I discussed with the staff in Montreal. The two aspects I am focusing on and putting all my efforts into are defending well and being tough to play against. I think I have made progress in both areas.”
“I am not yet a finished product. I will continue to improve and progress!”
– Johnathan Kovacevic
It should be noted that Kovacevic was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the New Jersey Devils for a fourth-round pick in 2026.
He was extremely well-liked in the CH locker room, and it is unfortunate to lose him, especially because he was a great NHL waiver claim and a nice story, but Kent Hughes had to make room on defense.
Last season, Johnathan Kovacevic collected 13 points in 62 games with the Tricolore (an impressive +11 rating), and in 2022-23, he had 15 points in 77 games (a positive +3 rating).
He could be a surprising acquisition for the Devils.
