The Philadelphia Eagles have 6 former Alabama players heading into Super Bowl 59

This past Sunday, a conference champion was officially decided in both the AFC and NFC, which means that the matchup for Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, Feb. 9 is now official.

On professional football’s biggest stage to conclude the 2024 season, it will be a rematch from a year ago between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, who faced off in last year’s Super Bowl. As for this season, Super Bowl LIX will be played from Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, with the game set to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

As a result of this matchup as well, it now means that multiple former Alabama Crimson Tide players will be taking the field in the Super Bowl once again, with all coming from the Eagles alone.

Here are the former Alabama football players who will play on professional football’s biggest stage in the coming weeks:

Jalen Hurts, Quarterback – Philadelphia Eagles

We begin with one of the games two starting quarterbacks in Hurts, who enjoyed a strong regular season in which he completed 68.7% of passes with 2,903 yards and an 18:5 TD:INT ratio across 15 starts for the Eagles. Hurts also rushed for 14 touchdowns during the regular season, and has since carried over his success to the postseason where he has accounted for seven touchdowns across three games.

DeVonta Smith, Wide Receiver – Philadelphia Eagles

The former Heisman Trophy winner had a solid regular season in Philadelphia where Smith hauled in 68 receptions for 833 yards and eight touchdowns across 13 games. Smith has also hauled in a total of four receptions in each of the Eagles three playoff games so far, going for 121 yards.

Landon Dickerson, Offensive Guard – Philadelphia Eagles

The first-of-two former Alabama offensive linemen on the Eagles roster is Dickerson, who starts at left guard for Philadelphia. Dickerson is one of the premier offensive guards in the NFL, making his third-straight Pro Bowl this season.

Tyler Steen, Offensive Guard – Philadelphia Eagles

Steen is the second Eagles offensive lineman who played his college football at Alabama, and is primarily a backup for Philadelphia at offensive guard. The former Alabama lineman is in year No. 2 in the NFL.

Eli Ricks, Cornerback – Philadelphia Eagles

Ricks is currently in his second season in the NFL where he has a combined two tackles across a total of seven games played. The former Alabama cornerback has yet to see action so far during the playoffs.

Byron Young, Defensive Tackle – Philadelphia Eagles

The final former Alabama player set to play in Super Bowl LIX is Young, who has yet to compile any stats with the Eagles this season. Young has spent a majority of the season on injured reserve due to an injury.
