Donald Trump’s golf game has been the topic of national discussion, even reaching the debate stage in his most recent matchup against President Joe Biden.
The former president is an avid golfer, a fact that was not lost on the reigning U.S. Open champion when they played together recently
Trump played a scramble with two-time U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau for the golfer’s YouTube channel. The meeting came after a tweet from DeChambeau asking Biden and Trump to play each other on debate night.
Trump held his own while playing with DeChambeau, making a few birdies and even an eagle during his time on the course.
“This is pretty impressive,” DeChambeau said during the round. “I didn’t expect this.”
Trump and DeChambeau set to break 50 in their scramble, and they came extremely close by hitting the number on the dot with a 22-under at one of the former president’s former courses.
With Trump through the Republican National Convention and firmly on the campaign trail for the rest of the year, his time to get back on the golf course will likely be rare.
Trump’s former opponent will have more time to play golf in a matter of months, as President Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday.
Biden intends to fulfill his presidential duties until either Trump or the replacement Democratic nominee is sworn in next January.
DeChambeau will head back to LIV Golf, where he is one of small number of players to capture a major title while playing for the controversial circuit.
With all four majors done for the year, we’ll have wait to see DeChambeau play some of the other best golfers in the world for some of the top prizes in the sport.
