Leicester City striker Tom Cannon has been linked with multiple clubs this summer after struggling to make an impact in his first season in the East Midlands, with West Brom one of the clubs keen on the Republic of Ireland international.
The 21-year-old moved to the Foxes last summer on a five-year deal from Everton, but he made just 13 league appearances through a mix of injuries and also being down the pecking order, scoring twice and picking up one assist.
Following City’s promotion back to the Premier League, it seems likely that Cannon will move on as Steve Cooper looks to strengthen his squad, with three Championship clubs all chasing the former Preston North End loanee, according to Alan Nixon.
Sheffield United, Stoke City and West Brom are all in need of a new striker and are in the mix for Cannon, with the latter still uncertain about the future of their own attacker in Brandon Thomas-Asante, whose contract expires next summer and has attracted a bid from Championship rivals Hull City.
Cannon could provide the Baggies with the perfect, young striker to take the club forward in the 2024-25 season as West Brom look to hit back after losing in the play-off semi-finals to Southampton last season.
West Brom transfer interest in Tom Cannon hailed by fan pundit
With the new season just over a week away, deals across the league will slowly start to get more and more expensive. However, with Cannon’s history in the division, he is still worth chasing for many clubs.
FLW’s West Brom Fan Pundit, Callum Burgess, believes that the Baggies should make an offer for the 21-year-old, even if it is just on loan as expected.
“I think for me, Tom Cannon’s probably one of the best strikers you’d be able to get on loan in the Championship,” Callum told Football League World.
“He didn’t really get as much opportunity at Leicester as he would have hoped last season, but he still was able to fill in with a couple of goals when he got a chance and also showed a lot of promise that when he was on loan at Preston as well.
“I think if he did come to Albion, he’d be a signing that I’d be really happy about getting in.”

West Brom need striker depth following Daryl Dike & Josh Maja injury struggles
Although they reached the play-offs in 2023/24, West Brom struggled with injury set-backs to both Daryl Dike and Josh Maja.
With Dike out until the end of the year, and Maja inconsistent with his availability, there could be room for Cannon in Corberán’s Baggies team.
After such a promising youth career, Cannon possesses the talent to become a major name in the Championship, and he could potentially flourish at The Hawthorns.
“Asante’s future seems to be a bit uncertain at the moment, so if he (Cannon) did come in, he’d be a great replacement,’ Callum added.
“Also, Maja has just come back from a season where he’s been injured twice, so he’d be able to share minutes with him. He might even be able to play alongside Maja, as in pre-season he has played in the number 10 position a couple of times.
“If he did come in, he’d be a welcome signing, and who knows what I’d be able to achieve. I think double digits at least. It is a fox in the box type of striker, so he’d be someone who’d be welcomed by Albion fans.”
