Oklahoma Sooners finally get a player at their biggest position of need through the transfer portal
The Oklahoma Sooners have made a ton of moves in the transfer portal. But, it seemed like, for some odd reason, they would never make a move on a tight end. Tight ends coach Joe John Finley has been catching some slack for it as well. The Sooners were losing out on tight ends, and guys that weren’t really established at any level of college football.
And, they just weren’t really making any moves. So, the biggest position of need coming into this week had to be the tight end position. And, it still very well may be, but at least they have now addressed it.
Oklahoma Sooners sign tight end through transfer portal
According to the player himself via Twitter, the Sooners have signed former Kennesaw State tight end Carson Kent through the transfer portal.
During the 2024 season, Kent had 18 receptions for 217 yards and topped the team with three receiving touchdowns. His standout performance included three receptions for 67 yards in a game against Tusculum. At 6’4″ and 240 lbs, Kent was a significant target in their passing game, especially effective on shorter routes, but he was equally valued for his blocking prowess, enhancing both the run and pass plays.
Kent may not have the stats at a lower-level school to stand out like many want him to, but he is a player that the Sooners desperately wanted for a reason. They think he can fit the new offensive coordinator’s, Ben Arbuckle’s, offensive scheme pretty well.
The Sooners are likely not done targeting the tight end position.
