The Vancouver Canucks’ AHL affiliate has announced they’ve signed a trio of forwards for 2024-25.
In a post on social media on Wednesday afternoon, the Abbotsford Canucks, American Hockey League affiliate for the Vancouver Canucks, announced a trio of contracts for forwards.
“OFFENSE SECURED 🚨
Abbotsford Canucks General Manager, Ryan Johnson, announced today that the club has signed forward Cooper Walker to a one-year AHL contract extension, as well as signed forwards Lee Lapid and Ben Berard to one-year AHL contracts.”
Firstly, the team said they’ve agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with forward Cooper Walker. Walker spent the 2023-24 season between the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks and the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. In 13 games with Abbotsford, the Cambridge, Ontario native had one goal and was a minus-four. Meanwhile, in 36 ECHL games, Walker put up 13 points (three goals, ten assists).
Abbotsford then announced that they’ve signed a pair of unrestricted free agent forwards – Lee Lapid and Ben Berard.
Berard, 25, spent the 2023-24 campaign in the American Hockey League with the Texas Stars where he recorded four goals (one goal, three assists), six penalty minutes and was a plus-two. Berard is a native of Duncan, British Columbia and spent time in the BCHL before heading to college, most notably with the Powell River Kings, who he captained in 2018-19.
Lapid, a native of Thornhill, Ontario, was set to return to SaiPa in Finland’s top division, Liiga, before agreeing to terms with the Abbotsford Canucks. Last season, the 26-year-old split time between the ECHL’s Cincinnati Cyclones and Liiga club, SaiPa. In 34 games with Cincinnati, Lapid had 27 points (eight goals, 19 assists) and registered two goals in 14 games with SaiPa.
