Ole Miss has never produced a Heisman Trophy winner in the program’s history. In fact, no Rebel has ever finished better than third in Heisman voting, but that could all change with quarterback Jaxson Dart poised to produce in a major way this fall.
Ole Miss has set Dart up for success as head coach Lane Kiffin has assembled one of the nation’s best wide receiver rooms featuring 2023 standout Tre Harris, accompanied by Anwtane ‘Juice’ Wells and Jordan Watkins. While Dart is surrounded by playmakers in a quarterback-friendly system, it’s his arm talent and decision-making abilities that have landed him in the center of the Heisman conversation.
Many college football analysts are highlighting Dart as a dark-horse Heisman candidate, but sportsbooks across the country are telling a different story. Dart originally opened at +2000 to win the award, which goes to the nation’s top player in college football, but the latest update reveals that the Ole Miss signal caller is firmly in the mix.
As of Wednesday, BetMGM lists Dart’s odds at +1200, which puts him at fifth on the list.
BetMGM Heisman Winner Odds
- Dillon Gabriel +700
- Carson Beck +750
- Quinn Ewers +1000
- Jalen Milroe +1000
- Jaxson Dart +1200
- Will Howard +1400
- Nico Iamaleava +1500
Dart has earned his place in the Heisman conversation. Since arriving on campus in Oxford, Dart has helped place Ole Miss back in the national spotlight. Last season, Dart racked up 3,364 passing yards with 23 touchdowns to just five interceptions. The Rebels captain also accumulated 389 rushing yards and added eight touchdowns on the ground.
Ole Miss has a favorable schedule in 2024, which is part of the reason why many are prognosticating Dart and the Rebels to crack the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history.
If Dart can lead Ole Miss to CFP heights and perform well in games against high-profile teams such as Oklahoma, LSU, and Georgia, then it’s likely that he will have a seat reserved for him in New York City as a Heisman finalist. While Kiffin might refer to Dart’s Heisman buzz as “rat poison,” there is a real possibility Dart takes home some serious hardware by season’s end.
