BREAKING: Steve Sarkisian and Texas Longhorns pushing to flip massive five star recruit despite his commitment to powerhouse Big Ten brand

Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns recruiting apparatus has been on fire for the last few years. And all their efforts finally culminated with the number one overall recruiting class in the 2025 cycle this offseason. Now Sarkisian is trying to repeat that feat by aiming to flip some key pieces in the coming weeks.

Texas already has their next big quarterback recruit in Dia Bell to anchor the 2026 recruiting class. They’ve landed a star wide receiver. They have one big-bodied offensive tackle. Now Sarkisian and company are swinging for the fences on a massive five star offensive tackle from the other side of the country.

Kodi Greene, Five Star Offensive Tackle

Kodi Greene has long been considered a Top 50 recruit in the nation for the 2026 recruiting cycle, but he’s been rising even higher in recent months. Greene rose to five star status after it seemed he filled out his huge frame while maintaining dominance last fall against the best competition in the nation with the esteemed Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California.

Greene has been gaining more and more offers from the top brands all over the sport since it’s become clear he’s a Top 3 offensive tackle in the country as the 2025 high school football calendar nears. Texas was a bit late to the game as Oregon locked up a verbal commit several months ago after competing closely with Washington and USC. However, now it seems the Longhorns are right there in the flip conversation.

Steve Wiltfong reported that Kodi Greene, who seemed like a lock to land with Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks for a good long while, is still very much considering joining Steve Sarkisian and his Longhorns.

Greene has apparently developed a great relationship with certain staffers at Texas, especially Kyle Flood, the team’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. That relationship should prove pivotal in the coming months as spring unofficial visits and final official visits over the summer are set to take place very soon.

Green has noted on multiple occasions and just reiterated this week that he loves the direction and trajectory that the Texas Longhorns program is on. It likely also doesn’t hurt that he might perhaps get to protect Arch Manning for a year in 2026. And yes, after both Kelvin Banks Jr. and Cameron Williams are likely selected inside the Top 50 selections of this spring’s 2025 NFL Draft that should further reinforce Texas as a strong candidate for his services.

There still needs to be a lot of progress made before Kodi Greene officially flips, but all arrows are pointing up for the Longhorns’ chances. Texas only offered him this January and now he’s talking about them as a real competitor for his talents. Let’s hope Steve Sarkisian, Kyle Flood, and the rest of the Longhorns’ staff can seal the deal.
