The New York Rangers have plenty of talent in the prospect pool, after the 2024 NHL draft. But Gabe Perrault remains the most skilled, the 19 year old winger spent 2023-2024 at Boston College.
He is set to return for his Sophomore year to the Boston College Eagles, but by the end of the year, make the jump to the NHL.
His freshman season saw him score 60 points in 36 NCAA games, finishing third in points, but highest in shooting percentage at .209. Also played well on defense with a +24 ranking. It’s likely he’ll start this season on the Eagles 1st line, and post similar if not better numbers, and continue to be one of the NCAA’s top forwards.
By all intents and purposes, he’s already outgrown the league.
By the end of the NCAA season, he could make the jump to the Hartford Wolfpack in the AHL. This is because of course, the AHL season runs into the summer, and if the team feels he’s ready to turn pro, we could see it happen then.
This would give the Rangers a way to gauge their top prospect’s abilities and see how he’d fare in the NHL setting. This is of course what the team wants, since he has dominated in every league he’s played, but don’t know how he’d fare in the toughest league in the world.
The Rangers need a productive, skillful right-winger and his ascension into the AHL could lead to him taking the spot in the NHL.
