With the implementation of the 12-team College Football Playoff format, the 2024 season is going to look much different. In anticipation of these changes, Heather Dinich of ESPN listed 30 teams that can make the postseason (subscription required), including the Florida State Seminoles.
In her article, Dinich gives her take on each team, their toughest test of the season, and things that the playoff committee would like to see. Let’s look at what she had to say about the Seminoles.
Dinich cites to Florida State’s FPI chance to make the playoff, which sits at 35.9%. She then gives her take on this year’s Seminoles squad, stating:
As the preseason favorite to win the ACC again, FSU should have an even higher chance to make the CFP. The five highest-ranked conference champions are guaranteed a spot in the playoff, so FSU’s unprecedented exclusion last year as an undefeated power conference champion won’t happen again. The Seminoles will be one of the ACC’s toughest teams upfront, and they answered the committee’s top question last year — the quarterback position — with the addition of transfer DJ Uiagalelei.
Dinich lists FSU’s toughest test to be the Nov. 9 matchup in South Bend against Notre Dame, saying “[A] loss won’t knock the Seminoles out, a win could be a huge assist in earning an at-large bid if they need it.”
When speaking on what the playoff committee would like to see out of Florida State in 2024, Dinich reiterates the importance of beating both Notre Dame and Florida Gators.
