The Montreal Canadiens’ top prospect, forward Ivan Demidov, has just revealed where he wants to play next season.
In a recent interview, the Canadiens’ 2024 fifth overall pick made a rather surprising statement, which also shows a great deal of maturity on his part.
When asked about the rumors that he might play in the NHL as early as this season, during the 2024-2025 campaign, here’s what Demidov had to say:
«I’m not ready to go over there [to North America] in general. I want to stay here for one more year. I think it’s too early for me now, I need to work more [before joining the Montreal Canadiens].»
– Ivan Demidov
This certainly cools the enthusiasm of those who thought he would play with the Canadiens this season.
Ivan Demidov announces that he wants to stay in his home country a little longer
Demidov even mentioned that he would be willing to play in the VHL, a league considered the “American League” of the KHL.
Clearly, the young player is very down-to-earth and has a great attitude. It’s a refreshing change from some of his compatriots, to put it that way.
Nonetheless, we sincerely hope he can secure a good role with SKA Saint Petersburg in the KHL.
That would truly be ideal for his development.
Last season, Demidov scored a total of 34 goals and 54 assists (88 points) in 47 regular season and playoff games.
He was also named MVP in the MHL, as the most valuable player, for the second consecutive year.
The young player is very strong!
