Former Canucks Coach Bruce Boudreau Praises Thatcher Demko: “Probably the Best Goalie I’ve Ever Had the Luxury of Coaching”
Those are big words coming from a veteran coach like Bruce Boudreau, who has had the privilege of coaching some of the NHL’s most accomplished goaltenders. Boudreau, with decades of experience behind the bench, is no stranger to elite goaltending talent. His resume includes guiding teams with star Vezina Trophy-winning goalies like Braden Holtby and Olaf Kolzig, and even former Canucks goalie and captain Roberto Luongo in his rookie year.
Boudreau continued by saying:
“Like, I mean, he’s a big goalie, so his legs are as good as any goalies I’ve ever seen. I mean, his quickness in the net, he kept us in so many games. Like, I just think he’s a fabulous goaltender, and if he hadn’t gotten hurt, there’s a good chance he would have won the Vezina.”
He then added:
“But if he stays healthy this year, I expect him to be in the top three or four next year, and that’s really impressive to say about Demko, who is going to be 28 when the NHL season starts.”
On the Bet365 sportsbook, Demko is currently at 8/1 odds to win the Vezina trophy this year, tied for the 4th best odds of any goalie in the NHL. Ahead of him are the likes of Connor Hellebuyck, Jeremy Swayman, and Igor Shesterkin.
