Kyle Filipowski, the towering seven-footer from Duke, has officially inked a multi-year contract with the Utah Jazz following his selection as the 32nd overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. Although specific details of the contract remain under wraps per the Jazz’s policy, it is reported by various sources that Filipowski’s rookie contract amounts to approximately $12 million over four years, with the first two years fully guaranteed.
This contract is noted as the largest deal for a second-round pick in the last two years, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks. The third year of the deal is reportedly not guaranteed, with the fourth year depending on a team option.
During his collegiate tenure at Duke, Filipowski left a significant mark, initiating his career with the ACC Rookie of the Year Award for the 2022-23 season and advancing to achieve Consensus All-American status in his sophomore year. Filipowski played 72 games for Duke, maintaining a starting position in each and achieving impressive averages of 15.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks over 29.8 minutes per game. His consistent performance over two seasons elevated him into an exclusive club of Duke players, becoming just the seventh in the past 50 years to score over 1,000 points in their first two seasons.
In his sophomore season (2023-24), Filipowski’s statistics reflected his growth, averaging 16.4 points at a 50.6% shooting rate, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists across 36 games. His leadership on the court was pivotal, leading Duke to an Elite Eight appearance and earning individual accolades such as Consensus 2023-24 All-American Second Team and All-ACC First Team. Filipowski also showcased his scoring ability by hitting the 20-point mark in 12 games last season.
Despite being a potential late lottery pick, Filipowski’s draft stock experienced a surprising fall. However, he quickly began to restore his image as a promising NBA recruit with standout performances in both the 2024 Salt Lake City Summer League and the NBA 2K25 Summer League in Las Vegas.
Over the summer, Filipowski averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.0 steal in 22.2 minutes per game. His summer league play culminated impressively with a 26-point, 11-rebound performance in his final game on July 11, signaling a strong entry into his professional career with the Jazz.
