Predicting LSU’s Three Deep Offensive Depth Chart heading into Spring Camp

The Winter is winding down and LSU’s Spring Practices are rapidly approaching as they’ll kick off practice on March 8th. The Tigers offseason can’t end soon enough as there is a ton of excitement surrounding this team and their potential in 2025. The group garnering the most buzz is LSU’s offense which is loaded from top to bottom.

The Tigers returned key pieces like Garrett Nussmeier, Caden Durham, Aaron Anderson, and Chris Hilton Jr. LSU is also hoping that players like Trey’Dez Green, Tyree Adams, Coen Echols, and others will continue to develop jumping into starting roles. The excitement mostly stems from LSU’s transfer portal additions as the Tigers added two starting receivers, two starting offensive linemen, and two tight ends that will contribute right away.

As we approach LSU’s Spring Camp, we made our “Way Too Early” projections for LSU’s 3 Deep Depth Chart on offense.

Position Starter Backup 3rd String
Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier Michael Van Buren Ju’Juan Johnson
Running Back Caden Durham Kaleb Jackson Harlem Berry
Wide Receiver (X) Nic Anderson Chris Hilton Destyn Hill
Wide Receiver (Z) Barion Brown Kyle Parker Kylan Billiot
Slot Wide Receiver Aaron Anderson Zavion Thomas Jelani Watkins
Tight End Trey’Dez Green Bauer Sharp Donovan Green
Left Tackle Tyree Adams Ory Williams Christian Stamps
Left Guard Coen Echols Paul Mubenga Bo Bordelon
Center Braelin Moore DJ Chester
Right Guard Josh Thompson Carius Curne Ethan Calloway
Right Tackle Weston Davis Solomon Thomas Tyler Miller

The Quarterback Position is the clearest position on the roster as Garrett Nussmeier returns looking to improve in his second season as LSU’s starting quarterback. Behind Garrett Nussmeier, Michael Van Buren slots in as the clear backup with SEC Experience and a ton of potential. LSU moved Ju’Juan Johnson back to his High School position of quarterback and he’ll be the third guy in the room as Colin Hurley recovers from injuries stemming from his car accident.

At Running Back, the Tigers return dynamic talent Caden Durham coming off of his incredible Freshman season. The battle to get the second most carries for LSU will be highly contested as LSU adds two dynamic backs to the group. Kaleb Jackson will get the chance to be the backup and with his experience the hope is that he’ll win the job but, Harlem Berry and JT Lindsey may be too talented to keep off the field at times.

The Wide Receiver room is a pick your poison situation after LSU went out and loaded up at the position using the transfer portal. Most likely, Aaron Anderson, Nic Anderson, and Barion Brown will be the first three to hit the field but, nearly everyone in the room could play significant snaps for the Tigers in 2025.

At Tight End, it’ll be a nearly brand new room as Mason Taylor, Ka’Morreun Pimpton, and Mac Markway have all left since the start of Summer camp. Trey’Dez Green looks like the most likely starter after flashing his talent in the Texas Bowl. Newcomers Bauer Sharp and Donovan Green will also see playing time after transferring to LSU.

The offensive line is the toughest group to project as the Tigers lose four starters to the NFL. Transfer Braelin Moore will most likely start at Center while Josh Thompson will occupy one of the guard positions but, it’s unclear which side he’ll play on. The rest of camp and the summer will determine which linemen fill the remaining holes but, the Tigers room is filled with players capable of starting.

LSU’s Freshman Class could be the group with the most potential to shake things up for the Tigers unseating some of the veteran players. Harlem Berry was the Nation’s top running back recruit and if he flashes no one would be surprised to see him getting a ton of touches in 2025. The Tigers offensive line class was loaded and if any of the freshmen put up solid camps they could quickly become starters especially at tackle.
