Ireland striker Ferguson faces a battle to get into the Brighton team after the arrival of Georginio Rutter.
Ireland striker Evan Ferguson is being linked with a move away from Brighton ahead of next Friday’s transfer deadline.
Ferguson has missed the first two games of Brighton’s season due to injury, with the arrival of Georginio Rutter from Leeds in a £40million adding to the attacking options for Hurzeler.
Brighton forward Joao Pedro sealed a late winner against Manchester United Saturday, with the Seagulls blessed with attacking players as Danny Welbeck, Julio Enciso and Rutter are all pushing for starts.
The English media are reporting that Ferguson is on a shortlist of strikers Brentford are considering if Ivan Toney seals his big money move to the Saudi Pro League, with a loan move believed to be favoured by the Bees.
While Ferguson appears to have slipped down the Brighton pecking order, Hurzeler insists the Irishman is still in his plans.
“I heard a lot of positive things about him,” said Hurzeler. “I saw a lot of positive things and we will try to help him. We try to improve him and then he can be a really good striker in the Premier League.
“Evan came back after a long injury, so we have to be very careful. Especially with young players who want to be on the pitch or want to be back as quick as possible. We need to settle them down and then do it step-by-step.
“But he has started training with the team and you can already see why he’s here, because he has great abilities and great skills for a striker.
“For me, the most important thing for a young player – and he’s a young player – is his attitude and his character.
“And when I see him working in rehab, on the pitch, beside the pitch, that is impressive. And when we have video meetings, he’s really into it. He tries to focus.

Brighton’s flying start to the season continued on Saturday as they scored a 95th minute winner to beat Manchester United.
