Dusty May sets Michigan record for conference wins by a first-year head coach

If there is one coach that looked like the best hire in the last coaching carousel, it is Dusty May at Michigan. Coming from FAU, a smaller school a part of a smaller conference, there was a question as to how well May would handle the demands of a school and program like Michigan in the Big Ten.
May has truly proved himself at Michigan, as he has led his team to their 13th conference win of the season, which sets a record for the most conference wins by a first-year head coach at Michigan.
Michigan’s 13th conference win certainly didn’t come easy, and it certainly wasn’t pretty either. The Wolverines took on the middle-of-the-road Nebraska Cornhuskers on Monday night in a game where neither team scored over 50 points. The Wolverines walked away with a 49-46 win over Nebraska to get May his program record.
The Michigan Wolverines are currently tied for first place in the Big Ten with Michigan State. In just his first season as the Michigan head coach, May has led his team to a 21-6 overall record and 13-3 conference record, as well as earned himself a contract extension.
May has turned this program around after finishing last in the Big Ten last season to now being at the top in just one year. The Wolverines didn’t even eclipse double-digit wins last season, and now they sit tied for the No. 1 spot in the Big Ten and are competing for a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. Right now, ESPN NCAA Tournament expert Joe Lunardi has projected the Wolverines will be a four-seed in his latest Bracketology release.
There is still a lot of work left to be done this season for May and the Wolverines, but the first-year head coach has certainly left his mark on this program and made Michigan fans very happy for the future.
