Pierre McGuire’s statement that the Montreal Canadiens were going to assign someone to look after Patrik Laine sparked a lot of reactions.
RDS journalist Luc Gélinas looked into it and wanted to set the record straight. Journalist Luc Gélinas has just denied a big rumour about Patrik Laine
«No, Laine will not have a nanny»
That said, the journalist delved deeper into the subject and shared an interesting anecdote related to this story.
Luc Gélinas named the only Montreal Canadiens player, to his knowledge, who requested a nanny to follow him around, and that player was none other than Scott Gomez
It’s a really interesting anecdote.
«The only one I saw with that [a nanny], and it was on a voluntary basis, was Scott Gomez.» – Luc Gélinas
[The hosts responded, «Come on!»]
«Scott Gomez, he was in my second book, and we had developed a good relationship. He was single, and very much so.
And when the playoffs started, he would kick everyone out of his house, all his friends and so on… And his mother would come down from Anchorage, Alaska, and settle in his home.»
«She managed everything, and no one disturbed him.» – Luc Gélinas
So in this case, his «nanny,» who watched over him and followed him everywhere, was actually his mother.
Gélinas added that if you look at Gomez’s playoff statistics, you quickly realize that it worked for him.
It’s really interesting.
