The LSU Tigers’ preparation for their 2024 campaign has hit a snag due to injury and illness within the team, most notably affecting redshirt offensive lineman DJ Chester. Chester was recently sidelined and sent home from practice due to an illness, coinciding with reports of a “stomach bug” circulating among the team’s offensive line group.
Head coach Brian Kelly updated the media on Chester’s condition and his development as the season opener looms. “I think he’s gone through those phases of a natural development,” Kelly said during a press interaction on Wednesday.
“He’s not ready for the NFL or first-team All-SEC yet. However, what DJ has really improved on is his consistency.
The ability to stack days together is crucial.”
At 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds, Chester’s agility and size make him a standout player, positioned to take over from two-year starter Charles Turner as a key player on the offensive line. As a redshirt freshman, Chester is slated to play a critical role for the Tigers, tasked with protecting the quarterback and creating opportunities for the running game.
As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Chester to see if he can meet the high expectations set for him. His performance in the coming weeks will be pivotal as LSU looks to solidify its offensive line and foster a successful season.
