Texas A&M baseball hits surprising drought at the plate, loses second-straight game

Texas A&M baseball simply couldn’t get anything going at all from the plate against Texas State, leading to their second straight loss.

Huge questions beginning to form about Texas A&M baseball after second straight loss

The unbelievable streak that Texas A&M baseball rode into the beginning of this season— winning every single game against non-SEC teams since the middle of 2023— now seems like a distant memory. Things have evolved quickly here in Aggieland, and A&M baseball fans are not exactly extremely self-assured at this point.

After losing to Cal Poly in the final game of this past weekend’s series, that streak was snapped. Texas A&M baseball was hoping to begin a new streak with this Tuesday’s game against Texas State, but it is now clear that such a result was not to be.

In college baseball, you often, as a power-conference team, save your best starters on the mound for weekend series. A&M’s adherence to that strategy had them in trouble pretty quickly in this one, as the Bobcats put up seven runs before long.

The Aggies cycled through arms trying to stop the bleeding, all while a surprising inability to get anything going at the plate was manifesting itself. This game didn’t have the confounding factor of poor weather, as all the other games thus far have had in this season, so you can’t lean on that as an explanation.

This was the first game for the Aggies without Gavin Grahovac in the lineup, but it’s not as though he was playing lights-out for A&M beforehand— he was battling through an injury, after all. The whole team just looks like they’re in a funk.

Texas State has jumped up and knocked off some power-conference teams in these midweek matchups before, but the loss earlier to Cal Poly has A&M fans worried that this is now a trend. We’ll have to watch this one carefully as the season continues to come together.
