Former Clemson WR Tee Higgins appears to call Bengals out over contract drama

The Clemson great is not happy about things.

Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but former Clemson football standout Tee Higgins is not happy at all over his contract situation. For a while now, the Cincinnati Bengals wideout has wanted a contract extension, but the AFC North side hasn’t been able to make him happy.

On March 4 at 4 p.m. ET, the deadline will arrive for teams to place the franchise tag on players. This is something the Bengals want to avoid, as Duke Tobin, while at the NFL Combine, said that he wants Higgins to be with Cincy for the long haul and that he’s committed to a ‘long-term agreement’ getting done. This gave Bengals fans hope, but Higgins didn’t seem overly impressed with what Tobin had to say:

Cryptic Tee Higgins post has Bengals fans convinced he’s not happy with the front office

Higgins posting the ‘cap’ emoji after the Bengals made it seem like they’re all-in on getting something over the line with him? Yeah, that’s not a good sign at all. Should Higgins enter free agency, he’d have countless teams ready to try to sign him.

The veteran is a stud wideout and he’s developed sensational chemistry with quarterback Joe Burrow in recent years. Last season for the Bengals, Higgins posted 73 receptions for 911 yards and 10 touchdowns. In his five seasons with Cincinnati, he has two 1,000-yard campaigns to his name.

Coming out of Clemson in 2020, Higgins was drafted by the Bengals in the second round with the No. 33 overall pick. Higgins was a superstar for the Tigers, playing a big role in helping the team win the national title in 2018 – that year, he had 936 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. The following season, he added 1,167 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He’s been as steady as can be in the pros and now he wants to be paid for what he can do to impact a game. Burrow has been pushing for the Bengals to give Higgins an extension and Tobin claims this will be the offseason where things hopefully get done. Judging from his social media activity, Higgins will believe it when he sees it.
