No matter the sport, Georgia fans sleep well when the Dawgs beat the Gators

Is there anything better than beating Florida?

There are a lot of things that can happen in sports that will make Georgia fans really happy. Winning conference or national championships obviously stand above the rest, but not too far behind that is beating rival Florida. And it really doesn’t matter what sport.

Whether it be on the baseball field, in the swimming and diving pool, football field or even between the University’s chess teams (if that’s a thing), beating Florida will always be a great feeling.

That is exactly what Georgia basketball just did on Tuesday night in front of a packed Stegeman Coliseum when they took down the No. 3 Gators 88-83.

Georgia topples Florida after near collapse

Georgia at one point in the first half had a 26 point lead over the Gators. That lead got trimmed down to 16 by the time the teams head to their locker rooms for halftime, but still, a 51-35 halftime lead felt amazing. But this is when the Gators began their comeback.

The good news for Mike White and Georgia was that they were able to weather this Florida storm all second half. Instead of Florida dominating and taking the lead back quickly, UGA held onto their lead for almost the entire half. Florida did take a two point lead with a minute to play, but Blue Cain hit a clutch 3-pointer the very next possession to give Georgia the lead back for good.

Some might say it would have felt better to blow Florida out by 20 points, but the way the game played out might have been even better than that. Florida and their fans probably thought they were going to win this game after they stromed back and took the lead for a brief moment, but Georgia took it right back from them and never looked back. So the fact that Florida thought they were going to win this game only to have their hearts broken even more makes this win that much better.

And to put the icing on the cake, this win puts Georgia back in position to compete for an NCAA Tournament appearance. What a night in Athens, GA.
