Wisconsin basketball shifts in NCAA NET Rankings following blowout win over Washington

Wisconsin basketball (22-6, 12-5 Big Ten) earned its twelfth conference victory of the 2024-25 slate on Tuesday. That came in the form of an 88-62 triumph over Washington (13-15, 4-13 Big Ten).

While the Badgers’ 26-tally victory over didn’t come as much of a surprise for those invested in the team this season, it did prompt several key statistical metrics to alter its position. UW now sits at No. 7 in KenPom with the nation’s No. 7-rated offensive unit and ranks No. 17 in ESPN’s BPI, slotted behind only Michigan State and Maryland in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin also rose to No. 11 in the NCAA’s NET Ranking after it defeated the Huskies. Washington entered the contest in last place in the conference standings and No. 95 in the NET, making Wisconsin’s win a Quad 3 triumph. The Huskies now land at No. 99 in the NET as the Big Ten’s lowest-ranked team by a large margin.

Greg Gard’s group is the top-ranked Big Ten team in the NET after it leapfrogged Maryland (pending the Terrapins’ big game against Michigan State). The Badgers are a combined 14-6 in Quad 1 and 2 games and 8-0 in Quad 3 and 4 contests this season.

The major headline will arise if the Badgers secure their eighth Quad 1 win of the season when they travel to East Lansing for a test against the No. 8 Michigan State Spartans on March 2. A potential victory would propel the Badgers into the top 10 in the AP Top 25 Poll and NET Ranking — leading to a likely No. 2 seed in NCAA Tournament bracket projections.

Wisconsin’s tip against Michigan State is set for March 2 at 1:30 p.m. ET and 12:30 p.m. CT.
