Ryan Day Shares 7-Word Message on What Ohio State Must Do to Beat Oregon

The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes were scheduled to rematch the No. 1 Oregon Ducks on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl, a game in which coach Ryan Day’s team has become a slight favorite heading toward its 5 p.m. kickoff.

On Tuesday, Day offered a window into his mindset and the mindset of his team, sharing a seven-word message on what he believes the Buckeyes must do to defeat their new Big Ten rivals.

The Ducks beat the Buckeyes 32-31 this fall in Eugene, Oregon.

Day said this week that he is focusing on the players and team unity in hopes of turning the tide against the nation’s number one ranked team.

“I go back to our players because that’s, to me, that’s what’s the most important thing here and the team in general,” Day said. “It’s not one person — it’s all of us together.”

Day’s Buckeyes got a total team effort in round one of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 21 vs. the Tennessee Volunteers at Ohio Stadium as quarterback Will Howard spread the ball around to eight different receivers in a 42-17 rout.

Day spotlighted Ohio State‘s resiliency and togetherness as reasons for optimism heading into Wednesday’s CFB Quarterfinals matchup.

He knows that the margin for error will be razor thin against coach Dan Lanning’s Ducks and shared a seven-word message on what it will take to bring home a program shaping win in Pasadena.

“Here we are against a great opponent,” Day said. “We’ll have to be at our best.”
