Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky star rookie forward, is out for the rest of the 2024 WNBA regular season with a wrist injury. She announced the devastating news on Saturday night.
“What a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol🥲 Through it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so. I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next. Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. “God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers,'” she wrote.
“You’ll still see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sideline! And Unrivaled league, see you soon! 💞😇”
While Reese was crystal clear about her injury, there were still some unfounded rumors about her on social media. Some had speculated that Reese was pregnant and that’s why she was missing the rest of the season.
Reese quickly took to a live stream on social media to shoot down the rumors.
“I’m not pregnant, that was never a thing,” Reese said during her live stream, per TMSPN.
She added: “I want to make this crystal, crystal, crystal clear: I don’t have a man to have kids; I don’t have a ring to have kids; I’m 22 with no kids, and I’m not coming home to kids. So that’s not gonna be a thing any time soon.”
Reese, who is averaging a double-double this season – 13 points and 13 rebounds a game – revealed that she has a “small crack” in her wrist, which is forcing her to miss the remainder of the regular season.
The former LSU Tigers star made the decision to undergo surgery on the injury, hopefully avoiding the risk of making it worse by trying to play through it. She’s hopeful that she’ll be able to return to 100 percent health for the 2025 regular season.
