Yesterday, with the retained list released, we made inroads into covering those players that havebeen released.
I started with an article on – Dan Potts – that reflected on the player scoring the spot-kick that got us into the Premier League, in the penalty shoot-out, but having done so saw injuries deprive him of playing in a single Premier League game.
Today, it is my intention to cover another of those players who were not retained – Luke David Berry.
At 31-years-of-age the midfielder has opted to leave the Hatters and search for a club that can offer him regular football and I’m sure he’ll not be short of offers.
Luke joined Luton Town, back in August 2017, signing from Cambridge United and over the next seven years, or so, was to make a significant contribution to the Hatters climb up the league ladder, culminating in us becoming a Premier League club.
However, the influx of summer signings saw Luke’s chances of becoming a regular diminish, but it must be said that when he was called upon he rarely, if ever, let the side down.
Indeed, when Luke was introduced, often as a late substitute, his abilities often saw Luton Town up their tempo in order to retrieve a bad situation.
One cannot talk about Luke without mentioning his natural ability to drift into goal scoring positions and he leaves Kenilworth Road having established the remarkable feat of scoring for Luton Town in all the four top-flight leagues, a remarkable statistic and one which he should be proud of.
Naturally, after his departure was announced, social media was full of posts praising his contribution to our onwards and upwards remarkable achievement, as the few I’ve selected show:
Now I have not got a clue where Luke will end up, but if forced to take a punt, Charlton Athletic and a reunion with Nathan Jones, might be worth a small bet!
