Auburn’s Chris Rembert Shines Again with SEC Freshman of the Week Award
The No. 22 ranked Auburn Tigers baseball team had another stellar week of play, going 4-0 while continuing to dominate at the plate. They outscored their opponents this week 43-19, showing their dominance on both sides of the diamond.
A lot of their offense stemmed from back-to-back SEC Freshman of the Week, Chris Rembert. On the week, Rembert batted 5-13 with two home runs and two doubles, resulting in 10 total RBIs on the week.
His week began with a dominating win against Samford as they won 15-8, and parlayed that into a 13 run shutout against Ohio State. The young freshman’s biggest performance came against the No. 8 team in the country, Oregon State. In that game, he went .500 from the plate with a double and a home run, in route to an 8-7 victory.
The SEC, historically, is very talented in baseball from top to bottom. This year, 12 of the 16 SEC schools are currently ranked, with all of the top three residing in the SEC. A strong start to the season pre-conference play is vital to getting the team ready for the gauntlet of conference play.
Rembert and the Auburn Tigers have an opportunity to get some more momentum as they face off at the 9-2 UAB Blazers, and then head home for a series against Old Dominion (3-7).
The Tigers have another week and a half before conference play kicks with a home series against No. 18 Vanderbilt next weekend, March 14th.
