Teri Moren Wants Indiana to Focus on the Good Moments Ahead of Postseason Play

Teri Moren hasn’t held back her thoughts on Indiana’s rollercoaster of a season in 2024-25. From expressing general concerns about struggling in road games to calling out senior leaders by name, Moren has done everything she can to get her team back on track.

After a 20-point win over Purdue Sunday, Indiana’s 13th straight against the Boilermakers and third consecutive by more than 20 points, the head coach finally had something to celebrate again.

“I thought our kids came out with great intent. I thought their focus how they got off defensively. We started the game very locked in to the game plan, very locked in together, how they played together and how they communicated throughout, which was great to see,” she said.

Focus, intensity, and consistency have been constant themes in Moren press conferences this year, with her team fluctuating on those fronts sometimes on a quarter-to-quarter basis that cost them big wins.

One of those seniors who she called out after Thursday’s home loss to Maryland, Sydney Parrish, came up with a way to address that issue.

“We wanted to win every quarter. That was Syd[ney Parrish]’s goal for the team, and we were able to do that, you know, which I thought was important. We always try to have goals inside of every game, and that was one of them that we wanted to win every quarter.”

The Hoosiers failed to win every quarter against Purdue, tying the Boilermakers with 15 points in the second quarter. But the intensity and focus that her group started the game with allowed them to enter halftime with a comfortable 15-point lead.

Indiana did win the third and fourth quarters, a sign Moren sees as this team trending in the right direction before Big Ten play.

“I think there’s a lot of positives that we can you know take away from today and I think that will help propel us into the tournament this week,” she said, though she did acknowledge that the season hasn’t necessarily progressed linearly.

She explained how there were multiple points at which she thought her team had turned a corner or started to peak, only for them to have a letdown loss or losing streak.

For now though, she wants her team to focus on the highs and remember just how good the Hoosiers have been in those moments.

“We can’t lose sight of the fact that when we put it all together, we can be really, really good. We can accomplish a lot. And so I’m hoping that as we go into the Big Ten Tournament, that we can get some momentum.”
