Wolves fell to a 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Sunday at Molineux, with the club’s tough start continuing.
Wolves took the lead through Mario Lemina after a nice breakaway, with Jorgen Strand Larsen crossing the ball and Joao Gomes throwing in a nice dummy.
Wolves had opportunities to increase their lead. But Newcastle got back on level terms through Fabian Schar, who struck from distance.
Harvey Barnes then followed up with his own strike from range.
While there were positives for Wolves, such as the debut of new midfielder Andre, it was a frustrating result to take and the fixtures are not getting any easier for Gary O’Neil, who has now overseen just one win in the last 14 games.
Wolves may have lost, but Ben Foster has been full of praise for the team in his latest YouTube video.
Ben Foster impressed by Wolves despite 2-1 defeat to Newcastle
Wolves were dealt arguably the hardest start to the new season of any club in terms of the fixtures.
Fans have not really expected much from these opening games, and things have rather gone how most people expected them to.
Wolves were unlucky against Newcastle though, and were ultimately undone by two strikes from distance – neither of which Sam Johnstone could have done anything about.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has given his thoughts about Sunday’s game, and admitted he thought Wolves did not deserve to lose.
He said in a new video on his YouTube channel: “I felt for Wolves. I thought Wolves were brilliant. They were really good. They didn’t deserve to lose the game.
“Newcastle just stuck the ball in the back of the net from 25 yards and two different occasions and that was it.”
A tough moment, but encouraging signs
This is a tricky time for Wolves but there are clearly positive signs about the team under O’Neil.
Wolves may only be sitting on one point so far. But the Chelsea game aside it’s been fine margins and against Newcastle, Wolves were indeed unlucky.
It is important for the players to keep plugging away, and the fans to keep getting behind O’Neil and the players.
The fixture list remains tough for a few more weeks yet and the struggles could well continue. But there is potential for the bunch of players to nick a result soon.
