Trio of Blazing Hitters Paying Dividends For Entire Razorback Offense

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Designated hitter Kuhio Aloy is grabbing all the headlines for Arkansas. Coming into Friday’s game, Aloy led the nation in batting average and added two more hits, but because he went 2-for-4, his average actually went down in a 20-3 win over Portland Friday
There’s more to the hot start at the plate than just Kuhio Aloy. The Razorbacks have pushed across 132 runs in 14 games, their most at this point in the season since 2007.
Arkansas has three hitters above .400. Kuhio Aloy (.550), Brent Iredale (.419) and Wehiwa Aloy (.415) have combined for 64 of the team’s 122 RBIs (52%).
Arkansas only had one hitter above .350 at this point in the season last year (Jared Sprague-Lott). Logan Maxwell is also above .350 for this year’s team (.351).
“Look at Kuhio’s numbers,” Iredale said. “I don’t think any pitching staff wants to pitch against him right now. If he gets on base, I’m coming up, and everyone’s seen what I can do, and if Kuhio can’t do it, I can do it. If Kuhio gets out, it’s a sigh of relief for them, but then they realize I’m up.”
The entire line-up is benefiting from having at least a third of the everyday line-up putting up astronomical numbers.
“It just makes the pitchers doubt themselves,” Iredale said. “They just make more mistakes. That just allows us to get better swings off and get better pitches and in better counts.”
Perhaps the most encouraging development is the improvement of shortstop Wehiwa Aloy. Already generating serious first round MLB Draft buzz, the elder Aloy has seen his summer ball success translate to the college season.
Through 14 games, Wehiwa Aloy’s triple slash line sat at .228/.302/.368 with a team-leading 14 strikeouts in 2024. In 2025, his slash like sits at .415/.530/.811 with seven walks to just six strikeouts.
“He seemed like he was confident [when he came back from summer ball],” coach Dave Van Horn said. “[He] wasn’t swinging at pitches out of the zone like the fall before. We talked to him about it and worked with him all last spring. He’s the one that has got to do it. Once you start doing it, it’s maturing, it’s development.”
Arkansas will continue its series against Portland at 2 p.m. Saturday. The game will be streamed on SEC+.
