Leeds United and Southampton interest in Carlos Corberan is not likely to see the manager leave West Brom, according to WBA Report.
The Baggies news outlet who demonstrated their credibility during the transfer window reported via X on 22 September that the Spaniard is “highly unlikely” to want an exit from The Hawthorns despite reported interest from two clubs.
The Sunday Mirror reported on page 72 of their 22 September print edition that the Albion boss is in the sights of Southampton as a possible replacement for Russell Martin, while he is also liked at Leeds United where Daniel Farke is under major pressure to get promoted.
But Corberan is said to be committed to seeing through his long-term project at The Hawthorns instead.
WBA Report wrote: “For the record, Corberan is highly unlikely to want to leave the Baggies. Carlos is spearheading a long-term project here at The Hawthorns and I’m told he is determined to see it through.”’
West Brom boss won’t replace Daniel Farke or Russell Martin
It will be music to Baggies fans’ ears that the latest round of exit links have seemingly been shut down so quickly.
And with the Albion unbeaten and top of the Championship table after six games there seems little reason for Corberan to want to jump ship at this stage.
He has twice been linked to the vacant position at Elland Road since he arrived at West Brom [The Athletic], including when they were still in the Premier League [Daily Mail], so if he has remained committed to his project at The Hawthorns previously it seems all the more unlikely that he would do anything different now.
Corberan has his faults but what he has done with the Baggies despite being so financially restricted compared to his rivals is extremely impressive.
If it continues in the same vein he will likely be linked to any top Championship job that becomes available and ones from at least half of the Premier League, if not further afield.
But in the circumstances Albion supporters can probably rest easier than most clubs’ fanbases usually do in similar situations, since Corberan’s actions back up the view that he is focused on what he is doing.
There would come a tipping point where, if he manages to keep up the current trajectory, he will attract the attentions of a club too big to turn down, but for now he looks secure and the Baggies are reaping the rewards.
In other West Brom news, a high-profile Baggies player now faces a permanent January exit with a new deal a major task.
