West Ham United have made a woeful start to the new Premier League campaign.
With only one win from their first five matches, the Hammers are currently 14th in the league standings.
Their latest defeat came at home against Chelsea who completely dominated proceedings and came away with a 3-0 success.
The result of the match never looked in question after Nicolas Jackson’s brace inside the first 18 minutes.
Cole Palmer then added another immediately after the restart to ensure an emphatic victory for the visitors.
Former England player Danny Murphy believes manager Julen Lopetegui should be blamed for the humiliating defeat at the London Stadium on Saturday.
Talking about West Ham, Murphy said on talkSPORT: “Sometimes players are to blame. Sometimes it is both. This one was 90 percent manager to blame, because he set them up in a way they didn’t, they weren’t comfortable with it. They didn’t look like they knew what they were doing. Sometimes it looks like a lack of effort, it is not, it is a complete lack of understanding what they were trying to do. It was one of the most bizarre things I have seen this season, probably last as well”.
There was a lot of excitement among West Ham fans when Julen Lopetegui replaced David Moyes at the helm.
He was supposed to bring an exciting brand of football and also change the fortunes of the club.
A highly successful transfer window, when they signed the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, also increased expectations that the Irons would do well this season.
However, the mood around the club has now completely changed following their disappointing start to the campaign.
Their only victory in the English top-flight came at Crystal Palace last month, while they have lost to Aston Villa, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Pressure on manager Julen Lopetegui is mounting, and now he must improve results soon. Otherwise, the hierarchy may be forced to pull the plug on him to salvage their season.
