A new report claims that Eddie Howe was set heavily rotate Newcastle’s lineup for the now-cancelled Carabao Cup clash away to Wimbledon.
According to NewcastleWorld, Howe was set to hand starts to Emil Krafth, Sean Longstaff, Sandro Tonali, Miguel Almiron and Will Osula for the trip to South London.
All five were absent from the starting XI that eventually lost 3-1 away at Craven Cottage this past weekend, so it’ll be interesting to see if any start against Manchester City at St James’ Park this Saturday.
Sandro Tonali’s only other start since his return was in the second round clash away to Nottingham Forest, with fans itching to see the Italian international continue his impressive run of form for club and country.
Emil Krafth, who deputised in the heart of defence during Fabian Schar’s suspension, remains an ever-dependable option for the Magpies, particularly for these cup ties as the Swede rarely lets us down when called upon.
Will Osula meanwhile grabbed his first competitive minutes during the trip to Craven Cottage, and would have given Alexander Isak a night off after a mixed start to the season for the Swedish striker.
It’s understood that the match against Wimbledon will now, in accordance with EFL rules, take place at the earliest possible opportunity for both clubs. This will be October 1st at St James’s Park, sandwiched between the Magpies’ league games against Manchester City and away to Everton.
