The reputable Craig Button from TSN has just revealed some interesting information regarding a trade negotiated between Kent Hughes and Barry Trotz.
We knew that the Canadiens and the Predators discussed a trade involving goaltender Yaroslav Askarov, we were already aware that Hughes was among the 5 finalists to acquire Askarov, and we also knew that goaltender Jacob Fowler was requested in the trade by Trotz, but now there is even more news.
New details, this time from a different source.
The Nashville Predators asked for Owen Beck from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Yaroslav Askarov
So, the rumor involving Beck and Nashville was evidently true!
Pierre LeBrun absolutely doesn’t need double confirmation, but if some still doubted that Kent Hughes really tried to acquire Yaroslav Askarov, I think there is no longer any doubt.
It was serious, and names were put on the table.

– Craig Button, on Tony Marinaro’s podcast
It’s really interesting! As you can see in the video above, Button also discusses the case of Jacob Fowler.
If we put together all the elements revealed by reliable sources, we can conclude that the trade proposed by Nashville to Kent Hughes looked like this:
To Nashville – Owen Beck + Jacob Fowler
Would you have made this trade?
It’s worth noting that, in the end, goaltender Askarov was traded to the San Jose Sharks for a similar value.
