Kim Mulkey lands former 5-star recruit for first transfer portal addition
Heading into the offseason, the needs for the LSU Women’s Basketball team couldn’t be clearer. As Kim Mulkey returns one of the best wing duos in the Country as Flau’Jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams return for another season. Where the Tigers need to improve is at the Point Guard position while Kim Mulkey needs to replace her entire starting forward group.
Aneesah Morrow is off to the WNBA as she’s out of eligibility while Sa’Myah Smith entered the transfer portal after showing a ton of promise in the NCAA Tournament. As Kim Mulkey has shown time and time again, the Tigers will always be loaded as she’s used the transfer portal better than almost any coach.

Landing Kate Koval is massive for the LSU Lady Tigers as Kim Mulkey finds a starting caliber forward that can play the center position. At 6 foot 5, Koval is a more natural fit at the center position than Aneesah Morrow and Sa’Myah Smith who were more the size of power forwards but, had to play the center position.
Kate Koval was one of the top recruits in the Country in the 2024 recruiting class ranked as the 5th ranked player in the class and the top ranked center. This season for Notre Dame, Koval played 18.3 minutes per game averaging 5.3 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, 1.3 Assists per game, and 1.7 blocks per game.
The LSU Women’s Basketball team will need Kate Koval to take her game to the next level to compete for a National Championship in 2025 but, she joins the team with experience and a ton of high upside. This is the first of what should be many additions for Kim Mulkey as she looks to retool this roster using the transfer portal.
