Auburn Lands Massive Boost as Star Forward Confirms Return After NIT Glory

Posted on April 10, 2026

Sebastian Williams-Adams Returning to Auburn After NIT Title Impact

Auburn has received a big boost ahead of next season, with forward Sebastian Williams-Adams confirming he will return for his sophomore year after playing a key role in the Tigers’ NIT championship run.

Williams-Adams delivered an important performance in the title game against Tulsa, finishing with 13 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Auburn rallied late to force overtime before sealing a 92–86 win over the Golden Hurricane.

His return strengthens head coach Steven Pearl’s squad as he prepares for his second season in charge, with Williams-Adams expected to play an even bigger role.

The Houston native made a strong impression during his freshman year, setting an Auburn freshman record with 47 steals. He also logged 1,039 minutes, the third-most by a true freshman in program history.

Known for his defensive versatility, Williams-Adams consistently contributed on both ends of the floor. He recorded 10 games in double figures and reached a career-high 15 points twice during the season. He also added 13 points in the NIT final.

Before arriving at Auburn, he was a 4-star recruit out of St. John’s School in Houston, Texas, ranked No. 12 among power forwards in the 2025 class. He appeared in all 38 games this season, averaging 7.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 27.3 minutes per game.

One of his standout performances came in the NIT second round against Seattle, where he scored 15 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting night. That matched the 15 points he recorded in his college debut against Bethune-Cookman.

Williams-Adams joins Kevin Overton and Simon Walker in returning for next season, while Filip Jovic and Kaden Magwood have entered the transfer portal.

There are still decisions pending, with players like Tahaad Pettiford and Elyjah Freeman yet to confirm their plans. Pettiford was Auburn’s second-leading scorer last season, averaging 15.4 points per game.

The transfer portal closes on April 21, with Auburn’s full roster picture expected to become clearer soon. For now, Williams-Adams’ return is a major positive heading into the new season.
