Indiana has a new football commitment in Cameron McHaney. The Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy defensive lineman, who has true roots in the Hoosier State, will now head to Bloomington to represent Curt Cignetti’s program in the trenches.
The rising-senior recruit picked IU over finalists Vanderbilt and Purdue on Tuesday afternoon.
“I’m heading to IU!” McHaney told Rivals. “What really made me chose them is I feel I fit into their scheme very well and I believe Coach Cig and Coach (Pat) Kuntz will put me in to the right position to make plays and to get me to the next level.”
The newest Hoosier joins a top-30 recruiting class headed to Bloomington as the fifth in-state native (or second Floridian) in the group.
McHaney took official visits to Vanderbilt, Louisville and Purdue before wrapping up his month of June at Indiana. From the outset of the trip, the decision became much clearer.
“I really didn’t know until I went on my visit and when I got there I just had a feeling that it was home,” he said. “I believe it was a big goal to play in the Big Ten and it’s even better to represent my state.
“Very cool to get to play for the home crowd again.”
Indiana was there from the beginning
As a junior, McHaney racked up stops behind the line of scrimmage for the IMG Ascenders. He had a big offseason and pushed the scholarship offer list beyond a dozen before official visit season.
Indiana’s tender to the three-star talent came last summer, however. A dominant camp effort resulted in the good news from Kuntz, now set to be the position coach in 2026.
“They see me playing nose (guard) and 3-tech,” McHaney said. “I fit very well because I play more upfield and fast-paced. I want IU fans to know they are getting a dog who wants to get to the next level and is willing to work.
“The only other thing I have to say to the fans is to enjoy the show.”
